Prepare your iPhone or iPad for iOS 8

Apple has released their new mobile operating system iOS8 today but before you install it, there are several steps to make sure your device is ready for the update.

So is your iPhone or iPad for ready  iOS 8?

  1. iTunes 11.4 Ensure you are running the latest version of iTunes as it supports iOS 8 syncing.

Download the latest iTunes here.

  1. Free Space – iOS updates require free space so ensure you have enough room for the update by cleaning out unwanted photos and videos or uninstall unused apps. To my space, Go to Settings > General > Usage. Tap an app to delete it.

  1. Backup – There are two methods to backup your device. (1) iCloud (Go to Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup > Back Up Now) or (2) connect to your computer and launching iTunes.

  1. Battery – If you perform the update via wireless, you have to have a minimum of at least 50% battery life. Better yet, connect the device to the mains while you’re performing the update.
